Tool Steel 3D Printing: excellent for industrial tooling

Powdered tool steel is mainly applied to produce high-strength and wear-resistant industrial parts, especially in the tool and tooling manufacturing industry, where 3D printing is developing rapidly. Tool steel 3D printing can not only implement the manufacturing of complex mold inserts and cooling system, it can also immensely improve the economic benefits.

What tool steels are optimal for tooling industry?

At LUSHI, we take the advantages of tool steel for building mold insert with complexe conture. When it come to make high required conformal cooling, tool steel is the best choice for building them. There are two types of tool steel powder available for metal 3D printing, 18Ni300 (1.2709) has outstanding strength and elongation while CX tool steel offers high impact toughness and corrosion resistance.
High strength at high temperatures
Good toughness
High abrasion resistance
Homogeneous and dense surface structure
Ideal for building prototypes
Increase the productivity in tooling process

1.2709
High performance hot work steel

1.2709 tool steel is a high-strength, high-toughness hot work steel commonly used for manufacturing core parts of different tools, such as plastic mold, die casting as well as stamping mold. Its chemical composition contains high molybdenum, cobalt and chromium elements, which can improve the hardness and wear resistance of steel, as well as the tensile strength and toughness of steel. In addition, the material also has good corrosion resistance and processing properties, and can be used for heat treatment and surface treatment of molds within a temperature range. Powdered 1.2709 mold steel is one of the essential materials in the modern mold manufacturing process.

Industrial applications: Conformal cooling system, mold inserts.
Max. building volume: 425*425*525mm

CX tool steel
higher mold life and productivity

Powdered CX tool steel is a kind of age-hardened stainless steel. Compared with other tool steel materials, it has more advantages in the additive manufacturing. CX has excellent corrosion resistance, and heat treatment has no major impact on the corrosion resistance of the material. Besides, There is still corrosion after heat treatment Very good dimensional stability; CX can reach a hardness range of 34-50 HRC through heat treatment. These pros make it suitable for selective laser melting (SLM) processing of conformal cooling runner molds such as injection molds, extrusion molds, and plastic forming molds.

Industrial applications: Tooling, conformal cooling, mold inserts.
Max. building volume: 425*425*525mm
